Land and Peoples Acknowledgement
This author acknowledges she lives on Coast Salish lands in the areas that have been colonized and occupied by white settlers, specifically the Sammamish peoples. I acknowledge the experiences of genocide, forced relocation, ethnic cleansing, and land theft of Indigenous peoples and sacred lands. I honor the ways of knowing and ways of being of Indigenous peoples and tribal nations, who are still here and thriving, in this community.
Artificial Intelligence (AI) Statement
This author is vehemently against the use of generative AI in creative works. Generative AI has severe environmental impacts, including extensive water waste and depletion, increased greenhouse emissions, and increased energy use (ECU). AI companies routinely use, or scrape, existing material produced by human creatives without their permission in order to train their AI models. Even beyond the unethical behavior of scraping, AI companies often engage in what is called ‘digital neocolonialism,’ which is the exploitation of poverty-stricken workers in the Global South (UCI). Other dangers of generative AI include: inaccurate information, cybersecurity concerns and lack of data privacy, and the enabling of malicious behavior. This author pledges never to use generative AI in any of her works.
